At least one person was killed, and seven were wounded after two suicide bombers detonated explosives near a mosque in Afghanistan’s Herat on Sunday, Reuters reported. Police said the bombers attempted to enter the mosque but detonated the explosives after security guards refused to allow them to enter the premises.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack.

A police spokesperson said the toll could increase as the motorcycle bomb impacted Nabi Akram Mosque, Tolo News reported.

The attack follows a car bomb explosion in Afghanistan’s Lashkargah city on March 23, that killed at least 15 people and wounded 50.
