Bharatiya Janata Party National President Amit Shah on Saturday said the party wanted to win more than 21 out of 25 seats in the northeastern states in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, PTI reported.
Addressing the party’s booth unit chiefs in Guwahati, Shah said the BJP needed to win the maximum number of seats from the northeastern states to strengthen Prime Minister Narendra Modi so that development work in the states continues.
The BJP formed coalition governments in Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland in the recently-concluded Assembly elections. It is also in power in Assam and Manipur.
Shah said the BJP had won eight seats from the North East in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. “Except Mizoram, all other states in the North East are ruled by constituents of the North-East Democratic Alliance,” the BJP president said. “So all of you need to take it forward.” The North-East Democratic Alliance is a political coalition between the BJP and regional parties in the North East.
Shah also asked the Assam unit of the BJP to expand its network and to appoint an in-charge for each page of the electoral list.
