Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda said on Thursday that the Ayushman Bharat-National Health Protection Mission – the Centre’s ambitious health insurance scheme – will be ready for launch by July end, IANS reported. The government aims to provide Rs 5 lakh each to 10 crore families every year with this healthcare programme.
On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet approved the healthcare plan, which Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had announced in his Budget speech on February 1. The government has dubbed the scheme “the world’s largest state-funded health programme”.
Nadda said the government will share the operational guidelines being prepared by seven team with states in April. A national health agency will be registered and made operational the same month.
“By June end, hospital panels will be ready and all testing will be finished so that the system is robust and reaches the last man,” the heath minister said, adding that the the scheme will result in “timely treatments, improvements in health outcomes, patient satisfaction, improvement in productivity and efficiency and job creation”.
