PV Sindhu could clash with Akane Yamaguchi and Nozomi Okuhara again in May as India were drawn with Japan in Group A of the 2018 Uber Cup. Canada and Australia are the two other teams in the group. The Uber Cup is held every two years and is contested by the 16 best women’s national teams in the world.
In the Thomas Cup, which is the men’s equivalent of the Uber Cup, India have been drawn with top seeds China in Group A. France and Australia are the other two teams in the group. This means that Kidambi Srikanth, HS Prannoy and Co could come up against All England champion Shi Yuqi, Olympic champion Chen Long and the legendary Lin Dan.
In both the Thomas and Uber Cups, there will be five matches in each tie: three singles and two doubles. Each team will play the other sides in the group once and the top two will qualify for the knockout rounds.
While the Indian women have only Japan to worry about in their group, their male compatriots could find themselves in front of a banana skin in the form of France, apart from China of course.
The Thomas and Uber Cups will be played in Bangkok, Thailand, from May 21-27.
