Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has sparked a controversy with his claim that organisations such as the Popular Front of India, an Islamist group, and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh conduct illegal arms training, PTI reported on Thursday.
“We have information that some organisations are carrying out training with sticks even in Devaswom temples,” the chief minister said in the Kerala Assembly on Wednesday, referring to the RSS. “If needed, [the government] will bring in a law to ban it [such exercises].”
He promised to take action against “those who indulge in illegal arms training and drills”.
Yoga guru Ramdev refuted Vijayan’s allegation. “The RSS is not a terrorist or a Naxalite organisation,” ANI quoted Ramdev as saying. “It is a nationalist organisation and would never do anything against the country.”
