The Chhattisgarh Police have arrested seven men for allegedly confining and raping two teenage girls over two weeks, PTI reported on Wednesday. The police are looking for two more men involved in the crime.
The two girls, aged 17 and 15, were from Chhattisgarh’s Koriya district. They were rescued on Tuesday from a house near the Bijuri railway station in the neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, the police said.
Both girls are from Jhagrakhand, an area on the border between the two states.
“On March 4, a man identified as Abhijeet Pal, alias Pinku, 20, asked one of the girls, with whom he was involved, to meet him,” said Koriya Additional Superintendent of Police Nivedita Sharma. Pal allegedly promised to marry her, Sharma said. “The girl’s friend decided to accompany them.”
Sharma said Pal first took the girls to a spot in Khongapani and raped them. “He later confined them in the Ledri and Bijuri villages, and he and eight of his friends repeatedly raped them,” she said.
The police began looking for the girls after their families filed a complaint on March 18. Sharma said a tip led the police to the spot where the girls were confined.
