The Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune will host the eliminator and the second qualifier of the Indian Premier League this year after the governing council announced a change in schedule because of logistical reasons.
There was no change in venue for the first qualifier and the final, both of which will be hosted by Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
The IPL governing council had to tweak the schedule because of logistical issues pertaining to the home matches of Kings XI Punjab. KXIP will now play four home matches in Indore and three in Mohali.
While all IPL franchises are required to play four home matches at their designated home ground, the governing council had to allow an exception this time because of the closure of Chandigarh airport for expansion work for 20 days from May 12-31, and all Sundays of April.
“The IPL thanks the Punjab Cricket Association for their understanding and cooperation, and their willingness to host one game less that has enabled in making the required changes,” the governing council said in a release.
