India on Monday summoned Pakistan’s Deputy High Commissioner Syed Haider Shah to protest against the death of civilians in alleged unprovoked firing by Pakistani forces, PTI reported.
Five civilians were killed in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday allegedly after Pakistani troops began to fire across the border along the Line of Control in Mendhar sector of Poonch district. The shelling began around 7.30 am in Balakote area. Mohammad Ramzan, his wife and three sons were killed while his two daughters were injured.
“It was conveyed that the deliberate targeting of innocent civilians is highly deplorable and is condemned in the strongest terms,” the Ministry of External Affairs said.
India also told Shah that such “heinous acts are against established humanitarian norms and professional military conduct”.
