In 2017, researchers studying the mathematical skills of working children realised that the same students who easily solve “real-world” maths problems, struggle to answer similar questions as they are typically presented in schools and in tests.
The problem, it seems, is the method of teaching.
It’s difficult to say whether the method used by the teacher in the video above can transform mathematics for students, but the way he taught the multiplication tables was certainly a whole lot of fun. The children can be seen singing and dancing in glee as they learn.
No matter where the video comes from, there’s no question that it makes for happy viewing, whether you love maths or abhor it.
Another school is using a similar song-and-dance routine to teach students multiplication tables. One thing is for certain – the children seem to love it here too.
