Hindi filmmakers seem to never tire of recreating older hits. The latest cult classic to be remastered is Madhuri Dixit’s dance number Ek Do Teen from the 1988 film Tezaab, for Ahmed Khan’s upcoming martial arts film Baaghi 2.

Fashioned as a tribute to Madhuri Dixit, the song sees Jacqueline Fernandez step into the actresses’s shoes as Mohini. Like in the original, Mohini counts down the days till she meets her beloved and the chorus chants her name to call her on stage. But the similarities are limited.

The remixed Ek Do Teen, composed by Sandeep Shirodkar, is set to programmed and synthetic beats that turn the original into a generic discotheque number. The original was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Shreya Ghosal fills in for Alka Yagnik on the vocals and the remix also makes room for rapper Parry G’s “Go on sing it”, before the beats drown the song.

The choreography, by Ganesh Acharya, is full of vigorous, chest and crotch-thrusting steps but retains some of Saroj Khan’s iconic moves from the original. Fernandez’s costume is a stripped-down version of what Dixit’s Mohini wore. Prateik Babbar also makes an appearance.

Starring Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani, Baaghi 2 is the sequel to the 2016 martial arts film Baaghi. The movie, co-produced by Fox Star Studios and Sajid Nadiadwala, is scheduled to be released on March 30.
