All rumours have been put to rest: Danny Boyle is going to direct the latest instalment of the James Bond movie franchise, reported Metro New York.
The names of a number of directors had been doing the rounds, including Denis Villeneuve and David Mackenzie.
“We are working on a script right now,” the director of Trainspotting and 127 Hours told the publication at a screening of his new FX show Trust. “And it all depends on that really. I am working on a Richard Curtis script at the moment. We hope to start shooting that in 6 or 7 weeks. Then Bond would be right at the end of the year.”
Currently called James Bond 25, the film is said to be Daniel Craig’s last role as the British secret agent. It will be released on November 8, 2019.
Boyle added that screenwriter John Hodge and he are exploring an idea for agent 007 from many years ago. “John Hodge, the screenwriter, and I have got this idea, and John is writing it at the moment,” he said. “And it all depends on how it turns out. It would be foolish of me to give any of it away.”
When reporters from pagesix.com asked Boyle if the female characters in Bond films will be portrayed differently in the MeToo era, he said : “You acknowledge the legacy of the world [of Bond] and you write in the world — but you also write in the modern world as well.”
