The body of a Bharatiya Janata Party councillor was found in the water tank of her house in Udaipur in the early hours of Thursday, the Hindustan Times reported. “Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide,” Mangi Lal, an assistant sub-inspector at Ghanta Ghar police station, told the daily.
Pathan’s husband was away on business for a couple of days and she was at home with her two children – a 15-year-old son and a 10-year-old daughter – when the incident occurred. “The kids had found the body and informed their father,” the police officer said. “We received the information from the father at about 3 am.”
The police reached the house soon after and took the body out of the tank. They sent it to MB Hospital for autopsy, News 18 reported.
The police have called the councillor’s parents and other family members for questioning, and are investigating other possible reasons for her death. For now, they have registered a case of unnatural death, Lal said.
