Cricket permeates all ways of life in India and as it turns out, the situation is no different with academics. Students appearing for their class 10 examinations, conducted by the West Bengal state board, were surprised to find a question on Virat Kohli in their English language paper.

The question to the students was for 10 marks and it required them to write a short profile on Kohli, based on points mentioned, according to a report in the Hindustan Times. Students were pleasantly surprised to find the question in the paper and were glad to answer it, according to the newspaper.

Laxmi Ratan Shukla, former India all-rounder and also Trinamool Congress’ legislator in the West Bengal assembly from the Howrah Uttar constituency, praised the inclusion of a sportsperson-related question in the paper.

“Besides being an icon, Kohli’s life is about dedication, hard work and discipline, which can be an example for students,” he was quoted as saying. “I appreciate the gesture and I hope in future there will be questions on sporting icons not only in Madhyamik but other board examinations as well.”

Shreya Ghoshal, a student of Midnapore Mission Girls School was quoted as having said, “We had to write a short profile based on the points mentioned in the question paper. But Kohli is so popular that even if points were not given, many could have written pages,”

Kohli was given a rest for the Nidahas Trophy tri-series between India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, after leading the team to ODI and T20I victories over South Africa.
