The Board of Control for Cricket in India is set to pay more to other international counterparts for allowing their players to play in the Indian Premier League, the Indian Express reported. The Indian board, though, will make the payments on pro-rata basis, which will depend on the duration of the player’s availability during the season.
A proposal to increase the annual fee for foreign boards from 10% to 20% was taken during the IPL general council meeting in January. The revision was considered after the mega IPL media rights deal.
Earlier, the BCCI would pay the other boards 10% irrespective, but henceforth a pro-rata system is set to be brought into effect.
The BCCI, though, has added a clause that requires each of these boards to compensate the Indian board if a player leaves the IPL in between.
There is also a proposal to make respective IPL franchises to chip in with part of the 20% sum.
