Johnny Depp is saved for the last in the first trailer of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Eddie Redmayne returns as magizoologist Newt Scamander in the second of five planned films based on JK Rowling’s 2001 prequel novel to the Harry Potter stories. The sequel, like the first movie Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them (2016), has been scripted by Rowling and directed by David Yates. The movie will be released on November 16.

Jude Law plays the young Albus Dumbledore, who unites with Scamander to defeat the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Depp). Scamander and Grindelwald had a brush in the first movie, and it ended with Grindelwald’s arrest. The trailer is groaning with the visual effects and impressive production design and period detail that made the first movie a global success, and the final minutes make it clear that no prison has been built to hold Grindelwald and his designs to conquer the wizarding world.

Returning cast members from the first film include Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler and Ezra Miller.
