The Bihar president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Nityanand Rai, was on Saturday booked for violating the model code of conduct through an allegedly provocative speech ahead of a Lok Sabha bye-election in Araria, PTI reported.
Rai had allegedly said on March 9 that if the Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate won the polls in Araria, it would “become a hub of the Islamic State”. He had added that if the BJP candidate won, the constituency would see more patriotism, according to Amar Ujala.
The nodal officer of the local Assembly constituency filed the First Information Report, the Araria District Magistrate Himanshu Sharma said. The bye-election in Araria was held on Sunday.
Rai is a Lok Sabha member from Ujiarpur in Bihar.
