A 26-year-old man allegedly murdered a BCom student outside her college in Chennai’s KK Nagar on Friday. Witnesses caught the attacker, tied him up and handed him over to the police, The Hindu reported.
The attacker, identified as Alagesan, reportedly slit the woman’s throat with a serrated knife, according to The News Minute. Ashwini was taken to a hospital nearby but died of her injuries.
News reports said Ashwini and the man were from the same town, and that she had earlier filed a complaint against him but no action was taken.
The murder comes two years after a similar attack on an engineer in the city. S Swathi was hacked to death in June 2016 as she waited for a train at Chennai’s Nungambakkam station. A few days later, the police arrested P Ramkumar, who they said had confessed to stalking Swathi. A few months later, the police claimed Ramkumar had committed suicide in jail.
