The Delhi High Court on Friday asked the Election Commission to allot a symbol and a suitable name for the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam faction led by ousted leader TTV Dinakaran, ANI reported. Dinakaran, who calls his group AIADMK (Amma), had sought a temporary symbol until the Election Commission decides on his petition seeking the “two leaves” symbol.
In previous hearings, Dinakaran had suggested names such as All India Amma Anna Dhravidar Munnetra Kazhagam, MGR Amma Dravidar Munnetra Kazhagam and MGR Amma Dhravidar Kazhagam.
On February 16, the poll panel had told the Delhi High Court that it was opposed to Dinakaran’s plea because only a recognised political party can be allotted a symbol or name.
In December 2017, Dinakaran had moved the court after the election panel awarded the party’s two-leaves symbol to the faction led by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and his deputy O Panneerselvam.
