John Oliver’s recent episode on Last Week Tonight tackled Donald Trump’s reputation in the world. “America’s reputation overseas is under attack from its own president,” Oliver explained, saying that Trump hadn’t even succeeded in making America look good to the rest of the world.
He showed photos of Trump playing a game of tennis and offered a description. “It’s like a flamingo in boxer shorts named Phineas J Rocketdump ran for president under the slogan ‘Time to get serious.’”
Oliver also reflected on his love for the country. “As an immigrant who has fallen in love with this country, for what it’s worth, please allow me to speak to the rest of the world in America’s defence,” he said. “Donald Trump does not represent America – well, to be completely honest, he does reflect it a bit. But the point is America is not one thing; it’s a beautiful mess of contradictions where good and bad are mixed together.”
