India’s Ramkumar Ramanathan, who reached the main draw of the Delray Beach Open after winning both his qualifying matches, went down in the first round to world No 75 Donald Young late on Monday.

The world No 140 lost 1-6, 2-6 to the American, failing to put up a tough fight in the ATP 250 event. Off the 11 break points he faced, he saved only six and won only 53% points on his first serve.

The Indian had earlier beaten two USA players in straight sets to reach the main draw. In the first round of qualifying, Ramkumar beat Stefan Kozlov 6-3, 6-2. He followed that with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Bjorn Fratangelo to seal his main draw spot.

However, he had already gained 12 points by reaching the first round. He had earlier skipped the Chennai Open Challenger tournament at home last week, where all the other top Indians players had participated.

In the doubles, the Indian pair of Leander Paes and Purav Raja will open the campaign against Jack Sock and Jackson Withrow.
Meanwhile, at the ATP Open 13 Provence in Marseille, France, second seeded Rohan Bopanna and Edouard Roger-Vasselin will take on the combination of Ken Skupski and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
