Emma Watson has always been an outspoken feminist. Known famously for leaving feminist books in the London and New York subways, the British actor has now donated £1 million to the UK Justice and Equality fund, as part of the “Time’s Up” movement.
Accompanying the donation was a video that Watson posted on social media (above), in which she announced that they were bringing the Time’s Up movement to the United Kingdom.
“My big passion in all of this is to make sure it’s a global movement. This is about women standing shoulder to shoulder, women and men, across all workplaces because we know that this is happening everywhere,” she said in the video, adding, “We need to make sure that our voices are uplifted and heard too, and that the positive changes that we’ve seen happening here in the States are also happening elsewhere in the industry.”
The UK Justice and Equality fund was set up as part of the anti-discrimination battle under Time’s Up in the UK, and was announced on Sunday in an open letter by 200 British and Irish actresses, including Watson. Watson wrote a post to accompany the letter on Instagram, that you can see below:
The actor has been supportive of Time’s Up since its initiation, and even announced the British Film Institute’s new guidelines to prevent discrimination and harassment of women in the video below:
