Anura Prabhudesai and Mithun Manjunath won the women’s and men’s singles titles at the All India Senior Ranking Badminton tournament in Dehradun on Sunday.
Anura beat 13th seed Kanika Kanwal 21-10, 21-17 in a match that lasted a little over half an hour. Last year, she became the first Goan to clinch India’s No 1 ranking in women’s singles and doubles. The 19-year-old is ranked 119th in the world.
Mithun, 19, won his second successive All India Ranking title after besting fourth seed Rohit Yadav in a 40-minute clash. The ninth seed won 21-12, 21-11. He had won the men’s singles crown last week at the All India Senior Ranking Badminton tournament in Bengaluru after beating Swedish Open champion Siddharth Pratap Singh 21-12, 21-19.
Meanwhile, fifth seeds Aparna Balan and Sruthi KP beat fourth seeds Kuhoo Garg and Ningshi Block Hazarika 21-18, 21-15 in 46 minutes to win the women’s doubles title.
Kuhoo also won the mixed doubles title with Gouse Shaik as their opponents – Shivam Sharma and Poorvisha S Ram – retired at 12-9 in the first game.
Top seeded pair Arun Ram and Sanyam Shukla won the men’s doubles final via a walkover.
