The makers of Tamil actor Dhanush’s Hollywood debut, The Extraordinary Journey of The Fakir, released posters of the movie on Saturday.
Clad in a multi-coloured turban, Dhanush is seen peering out of a suitcase. Based on Romain Puertolas’s 2014 novel The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe, Ken Scott’s film also stars The Artist lead Berenice Bejo, Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips), Erin Moriarty and Abel Jafri. The film will be released in India in Tamil, Hindi and English.
The film traces the life of con-man Ajatashatru Lavash Patel (Dhanush), who tricks people into funding his trip to Europe. Ajatashatru travels through the continent in an Ikea wardrobe. The setting has been changed from Rajasthan to Mumbai.
The producers also released a 90-second featurette. “It is the story of a young Indian who comes from a very very small area from Bombay and he knows nothing else but his neighbourhood,” Scott says in the video.
The locations include India, Italy, France, England and Libya. “Something in the story does make the movie seem very much like a fable, but most importantly, we want the fakir to be very entertaining, a true adventurer,” Scott says as we see glimpses of Dhanush letting out a whoop from a parachute atop the sky.
