It is raining Bollywood mashups this week.
After the mashup video of Thor: Ragnarok’s trailer set to the audio track from Mukkabaaz went viral a few days ago, a new mashup video featuring the song Khalibali from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat is set to become the next popular WhatsApp forward.
Created by Sourav Biswas, the video has Ranveer Singh’s Alauddin Khilji from Padmaavat dancing to the 2012 Korean pop hit Gangnam Style. Singh energetic dance movies, originally performed for Khalibali, are oddly apt for Psy’s electropop smash hit. Considering Padmaavat’s pop culture appeal at the moment, this is, perhaps, the first of many user-generated videos and memes featuring the film.
The video of Gangnam Style, featuring its singer Psy, became the first to notch one million, and then two million views. It was the most watched video on YouTube until it was overtaken in July 2017 by Wiz Khalifa’s See You Again.
Gangnam Style made its way to Bollywood too. Producer Vashu Bhagnani bought the rights to the song for his 2013 production Rangrezz. In the film, Jackky Bhagnani is seen dancing to Gangnam Style across the streets of Mumbai. The film sank without a trace.
