In Tahira Kashyap’s short film Toffee, two girls thwart class divisions to discover new ways of seeing their little worlds.
The privileged Tania (Sammaera Jaiswal) is visiting her maternal grandmother in Jalandhar during her summer break. The yearly vacations give the child the opportunity of reuniting with her friend Ritu (Syna Anand), who lives in the slums and helps her family eke out a living. The two girls find that their worlds are further apart than they remembered.
Reportedly based on Kashyap’s real-life experiences, Toffee sketches an evocative portrait of unlikely childhood friendships and innocent bonhomie.
Co-produced by Kashyap’s husband, Ayushmann Khurrana, and casting director Mukesh Chabbria, Toffee is available for viewing on Eros Now’s website and its YouTube channel.
