Meryl Streep will join Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon for the second season of HBO’s Big Little Lies, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Streep will play Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Perry Wright (Alexander Skarsgard), who comes “searching for answers” following her son’s death. Mary is the mother-in-law of the character played by Kidman.
Directed by Jean-Marc Vallee and written and created by David E Kelly, the seven-episode first season of Big Little Lies is based on Liane Moriarty’s eponymous novel. Big Little Lies was premiered in February last year, and went on to win eight Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Limited Series. The second season, also comprising seven episodes, is reportedly based on a new story by the same author, and is likely to premiere in 2019, HBO announced.
Streep, who has won three Oscars so far, received her 21st Academy Award nomination with The Post this year. She has also won three Emmys for her television appearances, the last for the HBO miniseries Angels in America (2003).
