Vidarbha youngster Aditya Thakare has been named as a cover for medium-pacer Ishan Porel in the Indian squad for the ICC U-19 World Cup, the BCCI announced on Wednesday.
Porel suffered a bruised heel in his left foot during India’s first group game against Australia. He has a soft tissue injury and the BCCI medical team is monitoring his progress, a board release said.
Thakare, who is expected to join the team before the quarter-finals on January 26, made his first-class debut for the Ranji champions Vidarbha in the final and claimed two wickets. However, he impressed everyone with his consistent line and length.
He was also part of the India’s U-19 Asia Cup squad but did not feature in the playing XI.
