It was a poor start for India at the Malaysia Masters badminton on Tuesday as P Kashyap and the mixed doubles pair of Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy were among a long list of losers.
The pair of Prajakta Sawant and Yogendran Krishnan were the only Indian winners on the day – and that too via a walkover – with their compatriots faltering either in the qualifiers or the first round.
Kashyap lost to Thailand’s Kantaphon Wangcharoen 14-21, 17-21 in his first qualifying match. Subhankar Dey gave a tougher fight to Denmark’s Kim Bruun before losing 21-11, 11-21 9-21.
Chopra and Reddy lost to seventh seeds Lee Chun Hei Reginald and Chau Hoi Wah of Hong Kong 17-21, 18-21, while Aparna Balan and Sruthi KP were knocked out by top seeds Ong Ren-Ne and Wong Jua Ying Crystal 12-21, 21-18, 15-21.
