International Working President of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad Pravin Togadia was found late on Monday, hours after the outfit claimed he was missing. This was after a police team went to his house in Ahmedabad to arrest him in connection with an attempt to murder case from 1996, The Indian Express reported.
The Gujarat Police had said a team from Rajasthan had gone to arrest Togadia. “A Rajasthan Police team came to Ahmedabad after an arrest warrant was issued against the VHP leader,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ahmedabad JK Bhatt said, according to The Hindu.
Togadia was last seen leaving the Vishwa Hindu Parishad office in Ahmedabad with a bearded man around 10.45 am. He arrived unconscious in an ambulance at the city’s Chandramani Hospital in Shahibaug locality around 9.20 pm, Desh Gujarat reported, quoting Dr Rupkumar Agrawal.
“He has been given glucose and his condition has improved,” Agrawal said, adding that the VHP leader had fainted because of low blood sugar. “Various tests are being conducted.”
As news of Togadia’s hospitalisation spread, several VHP workers gathered around the facility. The police have heightened security around the hospital, the Navbharat Times reported.
The joint commissioner of police had pointed out that Togadia had gone missing without his Z-plus security cover – the highest level of security cover provided in India.
