The 2018 Golden Globe Awards were remarkable for many reasons. This was the first time since the Harvey Weinstein scandal that Hollywood’s stars came together under one roof, this was the night female actors wore black in solidarity, and this was the night Oprah convinced many she could be President of the USA.
Naturally, it was not an offer talk shows were going to refuse. Both Trevor Noah and Stephen Colbert dissected the evening on their respective shows. And neither of them could help but notice was how presidential Oprah Winfrey’s was.
As Noah said clearly, the speech felt like “Oprah 2020”. What makes Winfrey supremely different from Trump is that, he said, “She’s black, she’s a woman and she actually likes to read.”
As for Colbert, after questioning whether America really wants another billionaire TV star as president, he conceded that Oprah has more claims to being both a billionaire and a TV star than the current incumbent.
