An 85-year-old woman was scared out of her wits when Google Home – the voice-based home assistant – gave her the weather forecast through its smart speaker.

A video posted by Ben Actis presents his grandmother learning how to use the new device, whom she endearingly calls “goo-goo”. While others might have given up after some time, this Italian grandmother, watched adoringly by her family, had no such ideas.

She did get the weather, but her entreaties for an Italian song went unanswered. It’s all very well to talk to new technology, but sorry, this time it left us disappointed with its lack of response to the woman’s greetings and queries.
