The year 2017 saw the India hockey get their act together after an unimpressive start. Under coach Roleant Oltmans, the men’s hockey team finished third at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup and sixth in the Hockey World League semi-final in London.

Due to this, he was sacked and replaced by Sjoerd Marijne, who was the coach of the India women’s team. Harinder Singh was handed the reins of the women’s team. The move proved to be the turning point for both teams as they won the Asia Cup. In the Hockey World League Final in Bhubaneshwar the men’s team retained their bronze medal.
