The Mumbai Police on Sunday arrested two men and booked one person for allegedly protecting the accused owners of the restaurant where a fire killed 14 people on Thursday night, The Indian Express reported.
Rakesh and Aditya Sanghvi, who were arrested, are relatives of the owners of 1Above restaurant. The police also filed a case against the owners’ uncle, Mahendra Sanghvi.
On Friday, the police had issued a lookout notice against three co-owners – brothers Kripesh and Jigar Sanghvi, and Abhijeet Manka – of 1Above restaurant. They were charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. However, they remain absconding.
While reports quoted authorities as saying that the blaze at Kamala Mills began at 1Above, the restaurant has claimed the adjoining Mojo’s Bistro was the “preliminary source of the fire”. “There was no escape from Mojo’s Bistro,” 1Above said. “Therefore, we believe that all their guests were told go through the premises of 1Above as we had an emergency exit.”
