Makeba
Jain
Makeba is a catchy song, perfect for the metro commute, for a brisk workout, for work, and for a lot of other things. It’s also a great tune to start the New Year. After I came across the song, I looked up its singer and realised there was much more to the song than just its catchy tune.
Singer-songwriter Jain was born in France, spent some years in the Congo and a year in Abu Dhabi. The song title, Makeba, is a reference to Miriam Makeba, the South African artist and civil rights activist who was known as Mama Africa. Jain sings:
“I wanna see you sing, I wanna see you fight,
Cause you are the real beauty of human rights.”
Makeba’s video is stunning too – the clever visual effects going wonderfully with the beat of the song.
