The Thiruvananthapuram police arrested a 22-year-old engineering student for strangling his mother to death and burning her body at their house on December 25, Manorama reported on Thursday.
The police said that Akshay Ashokan had initially said his mother Deepa was missing since Tuesday, but later confessed to killing her. The district police chief, S Prakash, said that Ashokan suspected his mother of having an affair, and was upset as she had refused to give him money for his fees.
The police said that the man burnt the body using kerosene in their backyard, where his mother would burn garbage. A DNA test confirmed the body as Deepa’s.
The police said Deepa used to work as an LIC agent and was living in the house with Akshay. Her husband worked in Muscat, and their daughter was living with him, PTI reported.
