A storm hit the United States town of Erie in Pennsylvania on Monday, dumping 53 inches of snow by Tuesday, The Guardian reported. While Monday brought 34 inches of snow, an all-time record in Erie for a single day, Tuesday recorded another 19 inches of snow.
The Erie administration issued a snow emergency, citing “dangerous and impassable” roads. It asked citizens to stay off the roads till the snow stops and roads can reopen. However, more snow is expected on Wednesday, BBC reported.
The network said the snow buried several cars and homes in Erie, and some residents had to shovel their way out. Shops and childcare centres were closed, and some flights to and from the Erie International Airport were cancelled.

Authorities issued windchill warnings for parts of Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire and New York, North Dakota and Wisconsin as well as large parts of of South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan and Indiana.
