The end of the year may be the time for good cheer, but it’s hard to forget the bad news of 2017. Which is why the year necessitated its Honest Christmas Song for 2017 (above).
Here, famous parody-maker Malinda Kathleen Reese takes a capella on Christmas carols, having a heated sing-off against herself – with backing vocals by multiple self-avatars – about the events of 2017. The optimist battles the pessimist in true holiday spirit to wish people a Merry Christmas “with a hint of cognitive dissonance”. The battle of the carols intersperses millennial grief and global crises with silver linings.
At the end, the thought is unanimous and something we can all agree with – “Let’s not f**k up 2018. We won’t mess up 2018.” (And there’s another thing we can all be sure of. The funniest videos will have commercial messages at the end.)
