A biopic on former Indian prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is in the works, IANS reported. The announcement was made on December 25, the Bharatiya Janata Party leader’s 93rd birthday. The cast and release date of the film is yet to be finalised.
Titled Yugpurush Atal, the biopic will be directed by Mayank P Srivastava (Kaala Sach) and produced by Rajeev Dhamija, Amit Joshi and Ranjeet Sharma of Spectrum Movies. The biopic is being made with the consent of Vajpayee’s family, which includes his adoptive daughter Namita and her husband Ranjan Bhattacharya. “We are constantly in touch with his family members,” Srivastava said. “His niece Mala Tiwari has helped us in executing this project.”
Bappi Lahiri will compose a song for the film. “I have made a song for Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayeeji. This song is made from a poem that he wrote earlier,” Lahiri said. The former prime minister, who was also the only non-Congress party member to have completed a full five-year term in office between 1998 and 2004, was known for his poems.
