Twenty people died in the Philippines early on Monday after two buses collided in Agoo town in La Union province. The accident took place when a smaller bus, known as a jeepney in the Philippines, collided with a larger bus. Twenty-four passengers were injured in the mishap, AFP reported.

A family was heading to a dawn Christmas mass at a popular church in a nearby town when the accident occurred. The driver of their jeepney may have tried to overtake another vehicle or fallen asleep at the wheel and lost control, Agoo Police chief Roy Villanueva told The Philippine Star.

Four dead in Moscow bus crash

The driver of a passenger bus lost control of the vehicle and drove into a busy pedestrian underpass in Moscow on Monday, killing at least four people, Russian news agency TASS reported. At least 10 people were injured. A law enforcement source told the agency it was not a terror attack.

The accident took place on one of Moscow’s busiest roads, near the Slavyansky Boulevard metro station.

A video from the scene posted on social media showed the bus plunging down the steps of the underpass, crushing several people, Reuters reported. The police have detained the driver and are investigating if there was a technical fault with the bus.
