World Youth (u-19) championship bronze medallist Aravindh Chithambaram added yet another feather to his cap when 18-year-old bagged the IV Sunway Sitges International Chess Festival crown in Spain with a win over GM Zdenko Kozul of Croatia on Saturday.
Chithambaram and Kozul were sharing the lead at 6.5 points at the end of the penultimate round and it was clear that the player winning the top board honours would be crowned champion.
The 18-year-old finally ended up with six victories from the nine rounds and added almost 20.5 rating points to his tally to close in on the 2600 Elo rating mark.
USA’s Samuel Shakland took the second spot while Matthias Dann of Germany clinched the third position.
