In light of the new rule imposed on condom advertisements by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the video above, made by Being India, could well depict the condom ad of the future in India.
The ministry has stated – and further clarified – that no “explicit” condom ads can be aired on television between 6 am and 10 pm as such advertisements are indecent and unsuitable for children. This mock ad is suggestive, teasing, funny – and scathing about government policy.
Of course, it suggests using the surrogate ad technique – popular with alcohol brands for a long time – where the brand is (almost) mentioned but the product is different. And, of course, the ad can presumably be played any time, since there are no condoms in it.
