A fast-track court in Bhopal on Saturday sentenced four men, arrested for raping a civil services aspirant, to life in jail, ANI reported.
The four were arrested in November in Bhopal for abducting and raping the 19-year-old woman when she was on her way home from a coaching class.
The Madhya Pradesh government had suspended five police officers after the woman’s family said they did not act on the complaint for hours. One sub-inspector even accused the complainant of making up a “filmy” story.
The police finally took action only after the woman and her parents found two of the men who assaulted her and dragged them to the police station.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan then asked that the trial be conducted in a fast-track court.
