The Manipur Assembly on Thursday passed a resolution demanding the disclosure of the contents of a 2015 pact signed between the Centre and the Isak Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland outfit, IANS reported.
Manipur’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Opposition Congress said that the territorial integrity of the state must be maintained. Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh are reportedly apprehensive that the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah faction will demand parts of territories of the three states to constitute a Greater Nagaland.
A four-member committee was set up to prepare a memorandum, which will be submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The resolution will be sent to the central government with the additional clause for disclosure of the framework agreement.
Congress leader Okram Ibobi Singh, who was the chief minister of Manipur in 2015, claimed that some central leaders had asked him to not oppose the agreement. He said the chief ministers of Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh had called on the leaders in New Delhi after the agreement was signed. However, they refused to disclose the contents, IANS reported.
“Since the formation of a BJP-led government on March 15, there have been seven assembly sessions, during which discussions were held and resolutions taken on the issue,” Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said. “This time a clause ought to be added demanding disclosure of the contents of the agreement.”
