A newly-elected Gujarat MLA was arrested on Thursday for allegedly rioting and attacking a police officer in Porbandar, PTI reported.
Kandhal Jadeja, a leader of the Nationalist Congress Party, and seven others were arrested, said Superintendent of Police Shobha Bhutada.
Jadeja – the only NCP leader from the state who won the Assembly elections – his two brothers and a dozen others allegedly entered the Ranavav Police Station around 5 am on Wednesday and beat up political rival Samat Gogan. The police said Gogan had come to the station, fearing an attack.
“They then damaged a telephone and beat up an officer,” Ranavav Police Inspector ND Parmar told PTI.
