Vaishnavi Reddy Jakka lost in straight games to Turkey’s Ozge Bayrak in the semi-finals of Turkey International in Ankara on Wednesday.
The eighth seeded Vaishnavi lost 6-21, 17-21 to her lower-ranked opponent. The 15-year-old won the Turkey Juior last week after beating Russia’s Anastasiia Pustinskaia in the final.
Earlier, her compatriots – Kapil Chaudhary and Brijesh Yadav – lost to Bulgaria’s Peyo Boichinov and Ivan Panev in the men’s doubles quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, Manu Attri and B. Sumeeth Reddy progressed to the men’s doubles quarter-finals of the 2017 Yonex/K&D Graphics International Challenge with an easy win over Sattawat Pongnairat and Ferdinand Sinarta Surbakti on Wednesday.
The second seeded pair did this in straight games, losing just 15 points in the match. From 8-5 in the first game, Manu and Sumeeth won 13 consecutive points against USA’s Sattawat and Indonesia’s Ferdinand Sinarta Surbakti.
The unseeded pair was better in the second game, winning 10 points. But at no point in the match were they ahead of the Indian duo. Manu and Sumeeth will face Chinese Taipei’s Chia Hung Lu and Chia Pin Lu for a semi-final spot.
In the women’s singles, sixth seed Anura Prabhudesai, 19, lost to Indonesia’s Rizma Anestasy Violeta in the second round.
