The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday said it had set up Cow Protection Committees in all districts of the state to ensure that cow sheds run efficiently, PTI reported.
Rajeev Gupta, chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Gau Sewa Aayog told ANI that the “Gau Sanrakshan Samitis” will be headed by the district magistrate and will also include two other individuals. “These committees will ensure efficient management and functioning of gaushalas and make them self-sufficient,” he said.
Principal Secretary (Animal Husbandry) Sudhir M Bobde said the district magistrate will have the superintendent of police and the district’s chief development officer as his deputies. “The chief veterinary officer will be its member secretary,” he said.
The committees will sell cow-related products such as soaps, incense sticks, mosquito repellant coils, biogas, compost and phenyl made from cow urine to make them self-reliant, he added.
