This is India’s biggest win in T20I cricket, in terms of runs.
KL Rahul gave India a fine start with a well-made 61. Dhoni and Pandey helped the team finish well with a late flourish that saw 66 runs being scored from the last five overs. The target of 181 runs was always going to be tricky, but Sri Lanka’s batsmen produced a below-par performance. Despite the dew factor, India’s spinners were up to the task. Yuzvendra Chahal was especially lethal. His four-fer broke the back of the Sri Lankan batting order. Dhoni, too, enjoyed a good time behind the stumps playing a part in four dismissals. India head to Indore with their confidence sky-high. Sri Lanka, though, need to go back to the drawing board if they wish to take the series into the third game in Mumbai.

WICKET! Its all over. India win by 93 runs. Sri Lanka are bowled out for 87 runs. Pandya gets his third as he runs through the tail. Fernando hits it straight to point to signal the celebrations to begin.

After 15.4 overs, Sri Lanka 85/9 (Fernando 0*).
WICKET! Pandya gets his second. India now just one wicket away. Chameera holes out in the deep. Sri Lanka’s batsmen have been poor to say the least.

After 12 overs, Sri Lanka 68/6 (Kusal 18*, Dhananjaya 4*).
WICKET! Fourth scalp for Chahal. This time its Perera. He steps out of the crease and misses the ball completely. Dhoni gathers the ball well this time to calmly dislodges the bails. Chahal has bowled a fine spell today. He finishes with figures of 4/22.

After 10 overs, Sri Lanka 58/4 (Perera 14*, Shanaka 1*).
WICKET! Chahal gets his third! Guanaratne is stumped. He is tempted out of the crease as Chahal rips it down leg. Dhoni gets to the ball, but can’t gather it. The ball though, bounces out onto the stumps with the batsman out of the crease.

After 8 overs, Sri Lanka 49/3 (Perera 10*, Gunaratne 2*).
WICKET! Chahal gets his second. Sends back the dangerous Mathews. It’s a soft dismissal, he hits it straight to the bowler. Sri Lanka’s chase crumbling at the moment as India’s bowlers go for the kill.
Mathews c&b Chahal 1 (b: 7, 4s: 0, 6s: 0).

After 5 overs, Sri Lanka 39/2 (Perera 3*).
WICKET! Tharanga gone. Tries to sweep Chahal, but could manage only an edge to the delivery that going down leg. Dhoni completes a fine catch behind the stumps, puts India on top.
Tharanga c Dhoni b Chahal 23 (b: 16, 4s: 1, 6s: 2).

After 4 overs, Sri Lanka 29/1 (Tharanga 13*, Perera 3*).
Unadkat could have had another wicket here, but the thin edge off Tharanga lands just short of Dhoni behind the stumps. It was a slower delivery again by the bowler and the lack of pace seemed to have tricked, not only the batsman, but also Dhoni who fails to get his gloves onto the ball in time.

After 2 overs, Sri Lanka 16/1 (Tharanga 2*).
WICKET! Dickwella falls! Looks to clear the inner ring, but Unadkat reads the situation well and bowls a slower delivery. Bowling in his first game since making his debut in 2016, Unadkat gets his first scalp of the night. Sri Lanka’s chase off to a poor start.
Dickwella c Rahul b Unadkat 13 (b: 8, 4s: 1, 6s: 0).

After 1 over, Sri Lanka 11/0 (Tharanga, 2* Dickwella 9*).
Sedate start for Sri Lanka in their chase. Pandya bowled a tight line, but if not for a mis-field off the last ball, it could have been a fine start for the bowling side. Dickwella played it to point, but the throw isn’t collected by Chahal, who is backing up. The ball hits his leg and goes to the fence for a boundary.

Sri Lanka need 181 runs to win.
KL Rahul played a fine knock of 61. Coming into the team after Dhawan was rested, had a lot of pressure on him, but it did not seem to faze him. He batted confidently and led India’s charge after Rohit’s departure. His dismissal in the middle overs did slow the run-rate down, but Dhoni and Pandey’s late flourish gave them a strong finish. Dew is likely to play a role when India take the field, but with the strong total on board, they will back themselves to cross the line.

“We spoke about getting to 160-170 and I think it was an exceptional finish from MS And Manish to get where we are,” says Rahul.

After 20 overs, India 180/3 (Dhoni 39*, Pandey 32*).
India finish strong.
Dhoni and Pandey have given India a fine total to defend. Despite the fall in run-rate after Rahul’s dismissal, the duo gave the team a great finish. The last five overs saw 66 runs being scored. The last six came of the last delivery off the bat of Dhoni, who finished it off in style.

After 19 overs, India 168/3 (Dhoni 29*, Pandey 30*).
150 up for India!
The hosts reach another landmark in style. The duo smash Pradeep for 21 in that over. Sri Lanka had done well to restrict the boundaries till this over. Both batsmen laid into the bowler in this one, a no ball on the last delivery cost the visitors 10 runs!

After 17 overs, India 138/3 (Dhoni 16*, Pandey 16*).
Dhoni, Pandey up the ante.
They smash Chameera for 19 runs. Two boundaries and a glorious six by Pandey came in that over. The intention seems clear - boundary every ball. Dhoni looks well settled, so does Dhoni. Dew is playing its part and India will need a big score to support their bowlers.

After 16 overs, India 119/3 (Dhoni 11*, Pandey 3*).
India’s run-rate has fallen dramatically in the last 5 overs. They have just scored 27 runs in the 30 balls now. Dhoni and Pandey need to power on quickly with just four overs left.

After 14.3 over, India 112/3 (Dhoni 8*).
WICKET! Rahul is bowled! He departs for a well-made 61. Looks to slog sweep Perera, but misses the ball. It crashes into the stumps. Crucial wicket for Sri Lanka. Pandey joins Dhoni in the middle.
Rahul b Perera 61 (b: 48, 4s: 7, 6s: 1).

After 12.4 overs, India 101/2 (Rahul 58*, Dhoni 0*).
WICKET! Shreyas departs! Just as India cross the 100-run mark, the Mumbai youngster edges one to the keeper off Pradeep. He tries to swat it over the third man boundary, but gets it wrong. Dhoni comes into bat.
Shreyas c Dickwella b Pradeep 24 (b: 20, 4s: 3, 6s: 0).

After 10 overs, India 84/1 (Rahul 50*, Shreyas 15*).
50 up for KL Rahul! The opening batsman, who got his chance after Dhawan was rested, has taken the opportunity with both hands. Has batted at a brisk rate. After Rohit, he is now forming a fine stand with Shreyas.

After 8 overs, India 65/1 (Rahul 36*, Shreyas 11*).
Rahul changes gears.
After the reprieve, the Karnataka batsman has gone on to the offensive. Smashes Perera for back to back boundaries. India are threatening to run away with the game here, but Sri Lanka keeping them in check with a few close chances.

After 6.1 overs, India 50/1 (Rahul 23*, Shreyas 9*).
Rahul gets a reprieve. The umpire had raised the finger after being struck on the pads. Review reveals, the ball would have missed the stumps.

After 6 overs, India 50/1 (Rahul 23*, Shreyas 9*).
50 up for India! Despite Rohit’s dismissal, Rahul and Shreyas have continued well with regular boundaries. Sri Lanka have toiled and got a few mis-timed shots off the batsmen, but luck hasn’t favoured the islanders after the India skipper’s exit.

After 5 overs, India 38/1 (Rahul 21*).
WICKET! Rohit falls. Looks to launch ball over long on, but mistimes it. Chameera completes the catch dicing forward at mid-on to hand Mathews his first scalp of the night.
Rohit c Chameera b Mathews 17 (b: 13, 4s: 2, 6s: 0).

After 4 overs, India 31/0 (Rohit 16*, Rahul 15*).
Good start for India. Rohit and Rahul have started well. Rohit also crosses 1500-run mark in T20I cricket. Sri Lanka has employed their spinners early on, but the dew has already started having an effect on proceedings.

After 1 over, India 10/0 (Rohit 9*, Rahul 1*).
Rohit starts off from where he left off in the ODIs, smacks a crisp cover drive to get India off the mark. Sri Lanka, though, will take heart from the fact that there is uneven bounce in the track.

Four changes to the Sri Lanka XI from the one that turned out in the ODI series. Chameera, Shanaka, Fernando and Kusal have been brought in.

Pitch report: Sunil Gavaskar feels the wicket is “very good” to bat on. There are some cracks, he adds, that might make it difficult for the ball to come onto the bat. He says, the team batting first should look for a score around 150. Dew is expected to be a factor as well.

6.30pm: Ahead of the T20 series between India and Sri Lanka, the focus was on former captain MS Dhoni, who has been mis-firing in the shortest format off late.

His performances during the T20 series New Zealand last month had drawn considerable criticism from all quarters. While his fitness is not under the scanner, his rate of scoring has been observed to be on the lower side.

On Wednesday, his task will be cut out with reports suggesting that a two-paced wicket would be on offer.

The pitch hasn’t witnessed competitive cricket since then and to make matters worse, some football matches were played in the multipurpose stadium.

A few days ago, students from a club were made to use the pitch as a test event. According to an official, it was a two-paced wicket that aided bounce from one end.
