Rajya Sabha Chairperson Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday admonished Congress MPs for rushing to the Well of the House and disrupting proceedings for the fourth day. The party’s legislators were protesting against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s allegation that his predecessor Manmohan Singh spoke to Pakistani officials about the Gujarat elections.

“This is not the way,” Naidu said. “Nobody is going to give apology. Nothing happened in the House. The statement was not made here.” He, however, was forced to adjourn proceedings till noon, and after the Opposition party kept up its protests the Rajya Sabha was adjourned till Thursday.

Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad said the Congress did not want an apology from Modi but clarity on what he meant.

The Congress’ protests also disrupted the proceedings in the Lok Sabha. Speaker Sumitra Mahajan first adjourned the house till noon and later till 2 pm. The Question Hour at the Lower House, however, continued after the members met for the post-lunch session. The members of the House took up the Requisitioning and Acquisition of Immovable Property (Amendment) Bill, 2017, for discussion.
