Pakistan’s National Security Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Nasser Khan Janjua on Monday warned that South Asia was one mistake away from a major catastrophe, and accused India of threatening Pakistan with war, Dawn reported.

“India has been stockpiling a range of dangerous weapons, as it threatens Pakistan continuously of conventional warfare,” Janjua said at an event in Islamabad on Monday.

He also launched a broadside against the United States for “exporting war and perpetual instability to South Asia”. Washington had opted to side with New Delhi and ignored Islamabad’s “enormous sacrifices in the fight against terrorism”, The Express Tribune reported.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on December 12 warned Pakistan’s leaders that they would lose control if the country fails to alter its relationship with terrorist groups such as the Haqqani Network and others that had received safe havens in Pakistan. His remarks came a couple of months after another top diplomat said the US wanted to see Pakistan take practical steps in its war against terrorism.

Janjua said the US was playing the blame game as it had failed to win the war in Afghanistan. He pointed out that the country had suffered terrorist attacks for siding with the US, the West and their allies in which 60,000 Pakistanis had lost their lives.
