Sonam Kapoor has bought the movie rights to Krishna Udayasankar’s Mahabharata-themed Govinda, the actress told DNA. Govinda is the first of three novels in the Aryavarta Chronicles and follows the descendants of the Pandavas and Kauravas. The titular hero is Govinda Shauri, a cowherd who becomes the prince of Dwaraka and faces his adversary, the Vasishta Varuni clan. The other books in the series are Kaurava and Kurukshetra.
An adaptation of Anuja Chauhan’s 2010 novel Battle For Bittora has been in the works for years. The novel is about a 25-year-old animator who reluctantly contests a Lok Sabha election in her hometown. “Both (Battle For Bittora and Govinda) can be made into films, and I’m going to do it,” Kapoor told DNA. “I don’t know which character I will essay, but it’s Indian mythology, which is spectacular and has a lot of potential.”
The screen adaptation of Chauhan’s 2008 bestseller Zoya Factor will also finally hit the screen, and will star Kapoor as the woman who becomes the lucky charm of the Indian cricket team in the 2010 Cricket World Cup. The movie will be directed by Abhishek Sharma (Tere Bin Laden, The Shaukeens). “Yes, there’s Zoya Factor, too, but I can’t talk about it,” Kapoor said.
